About this activity
DAY 1 – 4 hours

You will meet your guide at the Coliseum and with skip-the-line tickets go directly to the interior of this wonderful amphitheatre to learn something of its history. Following this you are taken outside once more to see the Arch of Constantine and then you take a short walk to the Roman Forum. The Forum was the centre of political, religious and social life in ancient Rome. A walk up the famous Sacred Way brings you to the Capitoline Hill and the Vittoriano; an impressive monument and one of the most stunning built in modern Italian times.

Next you visit one of the most famous fountains in the world – the Trevi Fountain. If you are superstitious throw a coin in the fountain and you will be sure to return to Rome one day!

Some magnificent buildings are to be seen in the Government District – the next part of our tour. Here you will see the Parliament Building, the Palace of the Council of Ministers and the Column of Marcus Aurelius.

A walk down Rome’s narrow streets brings you to Raphael’s tomb; the remains of this famous Renaissance painter and architect are housed in the splendid Pantheon. The tour then continues past the Ancient Baths of Nero to Piazza Navona where it is time for a photo beside Bernini’s famous Fountain of the Four Rivers.

DAY 2 – 3 hours

Your second day is spent in Vatican City. You will meet your guide at the entrance to the Vatican museums and as this is a small group tour there is the opportunity to go at your own pace and also to visit some of the smaller rooms not on the usual tourist itinerary.

First stop is the Belvedere Courtyard followed by the Pio-Clementine Museum with its magnificent collection of ancient Roman and Greek statues. Then you visit some of the famous galleries; the Gallery of Tapestries ad the Gallery of Geographic Maps.

There are numerous rooms in the musuems housing wonderful treasures; you will be taken to see the largest canvas in the Vatican displayed in the Sobiesky Room and the wonderful frescoes in the Immaculate Conception Room.

Perhaps the most famous rooms in the Vatican are those painted by Raphael for Pope Julius II. Here in Raphael’s Rooms you will see some of the artist’s greatest masterpieces, the Parnassus and School of Athens.

Then it is on to the Sistine Chapel. Once inside you will see Michelangelo’s famous ceiling frescoes as well as those on the chapel walls painted by Botticelli and other Renaissance artists.

When you leave the Sistine Chapel you enter Saint Peter’s Basilica. This wonderful church houses Michelangelo’s Pietà, Bernini’s Baldacchino as well as a host of other monuments in honor of Saints and past Popes.

The tour ends in Saint Peter’s Square where you will see the Pope’s Palace and a final photo opportunity, the colorful Swiss Guard.
