About this activity
Among the first lesson in living life as a Roman is to sip your coffee the way the Romans do — standing up. So, a fundamental pit stop on this private food tour will be in a real Roman café where you’ll have the opportunity to test, on site, what you have learned from your guide about “drinking coffee as the Italians do!”
High on caffeine, sugar, and the Roman spirit, we will make our way to the historical center, where the oldest and most fascinating food shops are! Here we will admire the colourful displays of fruit and vegetables and meet bakers, local cheese and ham producers…get ready for an enchanting experience!
Next up, it is essential that you try some mortadella (a light pink, smooth textured Italian sausage), prosciutto or porchetta, mean cold cuts from the local sheperds tradition! And what better way to try it than on a pizza, an Italian superstar dish that is loved the world over?! This is not any old pizza though, it’s a pizza bianca. Your immersion into the Italian way of life is progressing nicely…
Rome has a great tradition of fried food, and we have a special kind that we want you to try that you can just find in the eternal city! Have you ever heard of fried zucchini flowers or supplì?! We will enjoy some of these freshly fried delicious treats together as you get to grips with some of our most popular dishes.
One stop you absolutely cannot miss is the Jewish neighbourhood, where the local Jewish community has played an essential part in the chequered history of Rome since 1555. More importantly for us, their contribution to the food scene in Rome has been equally as impressive; you will have a chance to salute some of their most loved small bites, such as fried artichokes and stock fish.
By the end of your private tour, you’ll know how to live and eat like a proper Roman! Before you go, your guide will be very happy to recommend many more foodie adventures for you to enjoy in and around one of the world’s most beautiful cities. When in Rome, indeed!
This tour is priced for a minimum group size of two travellers. A solo traveller or group smaller than two may still book this private experience but will be charged the base rate for two travellers.
