With the fall of the Empire, the Roman Forum fell into oblivion and was buried little by little. Although the existence and location of the Forum was already known in the 16th century, excavations began only in the 20th century.

Excellent service we were picked up at the hotel at agreed time and then taken to the colosseum where the tour started. Lunch was really good as was the catacombs tour and the two churches visited in the second part of the day guides throughout the day were excellent a trip well worth doing.
