Meet your local guide and start your walking tour of Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto in Rome
Stop At: Trastevere, 00153 Rome Italy
Our 3-hour walking tour starts in Trastevere and then takes you over the Tiber to the Jewish Ghetto.
Trastevere is a picturesque neighbourhood that dates back to medieval times. It is a charming area that is filled with narrow winding streets, alleyways and pedestrian squares. These areas are often overlooked by tourists, but we offer intimate walking tours of these magnificent neighbourhoods, taking you to their top landmarks.
Trastevere was once home to the wealthy Etruscans. Here, you will visit some of Rome’s most important churches, including
Santa Cecilia, the Basilica of Santa Maria and San Francesco a Ripa.
Walking around these neighbourhoods is the best way to see all of the monuments and landmarks, as well as get a great feeling for this Bohemian area of Rome.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Jewish Ghetto, Piazza Mattei, 5, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Your walking tour continues with the Jewish Ghetto, where you will learn about the Jewish history and presence in Rome, which is still very much visible today.
Discover Rome's Jewish Ghetto; or Roman Ghetto, established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV for the 5,000 Jews that lived in Rome at the time. The former walled quarter sits close to the river Tiber, and today is one of the most fascinating quarters of the city.
Led by an experienced guide, see Jewish-owned businesses, visit kosher restaurants and, when possible, even take you to the
Synagogue of Rome.
The Porticus Octaviae is one of the most recognised landmarks in the ghetto, which sits in the middle of Piazza Mattei.
On this 3 hour Rome Trastevere walking tour you will also see the
Ponte Rotto, which is the oldest stone bridge in all of Rome.

It was cold and rainy, and it it took us a while to find our guide. He was fantastic! It was worth the wait. He was knowledgeable, warm, interesting, and heartfelt. We loved it. If it was 72 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze, I think I may have considered moving there. I'd highly recommend the tour.
