About this activity
As of June 1st all participants are required to bring a valid form of ID to enter the restricted areas of the Colosseum (passport, drivers license or government ID). Photo copies are acceptable.
With your expert guide and in your small group of maximum 6 people, you will enter with skip-the-line privileges into the Colosseum. From here your guide will take you on an extensive tour through all upper levels of the Colosseum and back in time as you walk past the seats of emperors, noblemen and peasants alike. Each level will give you an idea of what it was like for the people of many social classes to experience battle and bloodshed below. As you climb each tier, your guide will explain the genius planning it took to create this infamous landmark, and the methods used for theatrical special effects.

Please bear in mind though that in order to accommodate traveling families and friends, we do on rare occasion make the exception of adding an additional one to two guests in order not to split groups who are traveling together. On that same note, you may find yourself on tour with less than six people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesn’t always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

This tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Rome. The top level of the Colosseum has just recently been opened to tourists, and it's still pretty exclusive. We went to the front of the line and were escorted with a couple of other tour groups to the top, where the panoramic view of the city is spectacular. My partner and I turned out to be the only two people in our particular tour group, so it was virtually a private tour. Our tour guide, John, was terrific-- one of the best we've ever had. He's from New Jersey, but he's lived in Rome for the past three years where he's steeped himself in the history, language and culture. He was warm, affable and a wealth of information. He knew the answer to virtually ever question we threw at him. He also gave us great tips for what to do in the area after the tour. Put this tour at the top of your list and ask for John.
