Stop At: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo Spain

Located near Bermeo, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is one of the most impressive spots of the Basque Country. Believe me, it isn’t just the magic of photography. This peninsula is connected with the gorgeous covered in greenery coast by a raw stone bridge, surrounded by the waters of teal-blue Cantabrian Sea. The view of waves crashing onto the rocky walls and sensing their undeniable power will just add to the experience.

Sounds astonishing, doesn’t it? But San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is much more than breathtaking nature.

On the top of this island, you’ll see a hermitage in honour to Saint John Baptist. This temple, originary from the 9th century, has been destroyed and rebuilt many times along the history.

To reach the chapel, you will go through a journey of 241 stairs with stunning views on its path. But stay with me, because after this effort, you will also receive a reward. From the top you will experience the most brilliant sightseeing of the Biscay coast. Just don’t forget to ring the chapel’s bell three times and make your wish! (As the tale of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe tells).

Stop At: Puerto Viejo Bermeo, Nardiz Tar Benanzio Kaia, 48370 Bermeo Spain

The fishing village of Bermeo is one of the most important municipalities of Busturialdea-Urdaibai Reservation. For 125 years it was the most important village of the whole province and that allowed it to have more influence making decisions in the representative assemblies of Biscay.

What’s more, Bermeo can be called one of the most representative Basque villages. Its port is an area with various narrow colorful houses that not only make a charismatic view but are also full of bars with pintxos and drinks, that is a deep-rooted tradition in the Basque culture. So anytime you feel hungry or thirsty - just pass by, taste wonderful pintxos and feel like a local!

Nowadays, fishing is still one of the most important economical engines of Bermeo. Walking along its fantastic multicolored port you realize, that the tradition of fishing moves from generations and remains in the village until these days.

In Bermeo, we will visit a Fish Canning Factory to know more about how they produce this valued product.

We will also have time to have lunch in Bermeo

Stop At: Gernikako Arbola, Kalea Karmelo Etxegarai, 11004, 48300 Gernika-Lumo, Bizkaia, Spain

Gernika is wordlwide known because of Pablo Picasso's painting, in which the painter tried to reflect the horror that the city suffered after being bombed by the German legion during Spanish Civil War.

But Gernika is not only a symbol because of this. Since middle age, the decisiones regarding the province of Biscay were taken under the popular "Tree of Gernika". Under its shadow, the representatives of the different municipalities used to meet and write the laws. These assemblies were hosted in Gernika until 1876. The decisions taken here were so important, that even the King of Castilla had to go to Gernika to swear his loyalty to the Basque Laws and that way become the Lord of Biscay.

Stop At: Puente Colgante Vizcaya, Maria Diaz de Haro Kalea s/n, 48930 Getxo Spain

Puente Colgante is a suspension bridge, that is 61 m high, was built in 1893 and took 6 years to complete. It was constructed to connect the villages of Portugalete and Getxo. Actually, it was the first suspension bridge in the world and it’s one of the 8 bridges of this kind that still works. In origin, the main use of this bridge was to transport the bourgeoisie to the different spas located in both sides of the river.
