Church On Spilled Blood & Canal Cruise

A boat wends its way along the Fontanka, the Moyka, the Winter Canal and a loop on the Neva river. Main sites along the way include Anichkov Bridge, Engineer’s Castle, Summer Garden, the Salt District, Field of Mars, Church on spilled Blood, General Staff Building and finally, when you get to the main river, St. Peter and Paul’s fortress, Trinity Bridge, the Winter Palace, the Kunstkamera.
The tour includes a visit to the magnificent Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, which was built on the very spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881. The church, inspired by St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, showcases the distinct features of Russian architecture. Of particular interest is the fairy-tale mosaic collection, which adorns both the exterior and interior of the church. Covering a total area of 23,130 square feet, it is the world’s largest indoor mosaic.
