Day 1: City Tour of St Petersburg

The Hermitage is part of the Winter Palace so this portion of the tour focusing the opulent Imperial Residence of the Romanov Royal court and the vast collection that is the Hermitage Museum, one of the most revered museums in the world. There are 1005 rooms but your expert guide will describe the most requested art, artifacts and spectacular decor. The museum is most known for its world-class leading art collection but it is also one of the most complete general museums of culture and history. This iconic church was built as a monument to Alexander II, the Liberator Tsar, who freed the serfs, in the mid-1860's. The church is built on the exact place where he was assassinated. The church is not only a monument but its interior is considered among the best examples of the Mosaic Arts with every surface covered in minerals of 134 varieties. You may need to look closely to see that the elaborate religious art and portraits are not fine paintings but mosaics. After the 900-day Siege in WW2, the interior underwent 30 years of painstakingly complete restoration. During the war, it served as a potato storage facility for the starving city.

This is a favorite activity of visitors and locals alike. The city is made up of 44 islands and 500 bridges connecting them. This is one of the newest and most requested new museums in the city. It is housed in a fully restored palace in the city center facing the Fontanka River. It was created as a private museum to house the largest collection of Faberge Eggs which were presented to the Tsar's wife, Alexandria by Tsar Nikolaus, 9 in total plus a great many other objects of art

Next, after a sit-down multi-course lunch, included, you will travel north to the shores of the Gulf of Finland for an extensive explore the Peterhof Lower Park, known as Fountain Park in an ensemble of palaces and formal pavilions including the main palace, Peterhof Grand Palace.. This beautiful park is known for its spectacular fountains, 157 gravity fed fountains in total. This park and palace complex is one of locals favorite summer destinations.
