This tour will begin in the lobby of your hotel, from where your private guide will take you to Russian Museum by taxi where you will start the journey through Russia's artistic history. The Russian Museum is the hugest national museum in the world and now it is home to more than 400,000 works of art, including ancient icons and examples of the Russian avant-garde movement. The museum complex itself once belonged to Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, son of Paul I, and was purchased by Alexander III at the end of the 19th century to be made into a museum. Today the museum consists of several famous and gorgeous buildings. On this tour you will visit Mikhailovsky Palace, which contains art collections from ancient times to the 19th century, and the Benois Wing, where the famous Russian avant-garde collection is on display.

Stop At: The General Staff Building, Dvortsovaya Sq., 6-10 Metro Kanal Griboyedova, Nevskiy Prospekt, Gostiny Dvor, St. Petersburg 191186 Russia

Later your guide will walk you to The General Staff Building, belonging to St. Petersburg’s most famous architectural monuments, which was constructed according to architect K.I. Rossi’s design in 1820-1828. Before the February Revolution in 1917, it housed supreme state authorities of the Russian Empire. Now it is a part of the Hermitage museum and there you may find dedicated areas demonstrating contemporary art works, the Museum of Guards, as well as halls devoted to Carl Fabergé. The exhibition space also includes the restored historical interiors – gala halls of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire, private apartments that belonged to Chancellor K.V. Nesselrode and rooms of the Ministry of Finance. And of course in The General Staff Building you may see 19th century paintings, Impressionism and Postmodernism art works from famous collections of S.I. Shchukin and I.A. Morozov.
