About this activity
15-20 minutes prior to the departure time at 1:30pm, check in at the Salem Historical Tours office, located at 8 Central Street. You can check in anytime that day before your tour to receive your tickets. Then, meet your friendly and professional guide, who will show you and tell you about the incredible history of African Americans in our city.
We will discuss several local African-American leaders. Some of whom came here as free men and others who escaped slavery and came North to be helped by a growing abolitionist movement. These folks paved the way for others. We will tell you what they achieved, show you where they lived and where they had businesses.
