About this activity
Visit: Stonehenge, Amesbury SP4 7DE England

Perhaps the world’s most famous prehistoric monument, Stonehenge was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC. In the early Bronze Age many burial mounds were built nearby. Today, along with Avebury, it forms the heart of a World Heritage Site, with a unique concentration of prehistoric monuments.

On the site itself, there is plenty to see and do for visitors. Iconic symbol of Britain, a walk around the Stone Circle is the centrepiece of any visit to the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site. With a history spanning 4,500 years Stonehenge has many different meanings to people today. It is a wonder of the world, a spiritual place and a source of inspiration. You will wander around the Neolithic houses outside the visitor center, step inside to imagine how people lived 4,500 years ago, chat with the volunteers and discover how the houses were built using authentic materials and techniques, based on the evidence of dwellings found nearby.

You can also experience the Stonehenge landscape through time with the interactive map. You will see how the environment changed before, during and after the time of Stonehenge, and click on features to learn more about this incredible prehistoric area. Also be sure to watch the seasons pass and take a trip through time with the incredible audio-visual 360 degree view from inside the stones, in the visitor center.

The Stone Circle is a masterpiece of engineering, and building it would have taken huge effort from hundreds of well-organized people using only simple tools and technologies. Visit Stonehenge to find out more!

It was our first time to Stonehenge. Glad we saw it. There's an energy to the place. The Landscape is amazing. There are buses that take you back and forth to the Stones. Lovely gift shop. We enjoyed our day trip to Stonehenge.

At £19 very disappointing value for money. You can get a very clear (and free) view of the stones from surrounding roads. Around £5/6 would be a fair price as the accompanying exhibit is also disappointing.

Stonehenge was amazing, just a shame it is so expensive, especially when you visit the cafe as well. The exhibition was also disappointing, when busy you can’t really get to read things.

Quick service. Friendly staff. The structure remains breathtaking. Lucky for us the weather perfect and we got great pictures

Go early! We were there at 9.00 am and there were hardly any crowds but by the time we finished about 11 am it was so busy. Always remember to get the headphones, gives a great commentary and a must for the visit. The museum is worth spending time in but go after you go to the stones. I can remember many many years ago we were there with the children and just walked through the paddock to the stones - how things have changed!

Loved it from first sighting! Memorable, awe inspiraring! You will come away shaking your head in in appreciation of being in the presence of such a monumental achievement. And the wonder of how and why will stay with you long after your visit. Second time for me 14 years apart, first time for 19 year old grandson - taking photos with smile on his face...thats my best memory of Stonehenge until the next time...
