Next is Werfen with its Middle-ages Castle of Werfen. Castle of Werfen is one of the most magnificent mountain fortifications in the Alps and was also used in the “Where Eagle’s Dare” movie with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. It was the castle of Werfen which was used as Eagle’s Nest, not the original location at the Bavarian Alps. Enjoy some good Austrian lunch right at the castle before you will marvel at the bird-of-prey show conducted by historic State Falconers, mainly featuring native free-flying raptors!
After that very unique experience there is still another highlight waiting for you, the pleasure castle of Hellbrunn dating back to 1615. Hellbrunn was used as pleasure palace by the archbishops of Salzburg. It was used as a place for celebration, for pleasure and rehabilitation by the prince archbishops. The bishops used Hellbrunn as a holiday domicile with huge park and trick fountains. It was very modern to build pleasure palaces in the early 17th century. You will receive a guided tour of the trick fountains followed by an audio guided tour of the castle.
