About this activity

We moved from the hotel to the base of Cerro Catedral, where normal means of lifting are used to ascend to one of the highest areas of the mountain, from which we have a beautiful view of the lake and mountains.
At this point we start our trek.
After climbing to a sharp cross to the other side of the hill without losing altitude we head south.
In this stretch of the walk a wide and spectacular view Rucaco Valley, Cerro Catedral, Cerro Cerro López and three wise is acquired.
After a couple of hours of walking we reach a detour; at which point turn left. It descends down to the Laguna Schmoll, a typical upland lagoon.
Then continue downwards to Refugio Frey, located towards the end of the lagoon Toncek, about 1700 meters above sea level.
The place is striking for several reasons. One is that you can admire one of the most recent geological formations in the region, in this case represented by impressive granite walls and needles, which transform the place in virtually unique and ideal for sport climbing in Argentina.
Our lunch box lunch and after a break we begin our descent, this time by a thick forest of beech and evergreen, bordering the brook Van Titter.
In this way we will know an old refuge (Refugio Piedritas), and after a few hours of walking we arrived at Lake Gutierrez.
