Horseback Riding Tour to Che Chem Ha Cave

About this activity
Pickup in air conditioned SUV or Van at your hotel in San Ignacio in the morning. Go on a 15 to 20 minute scenic drive to a horse ranch where you will be fitted properly on the horse before starting your 2-hour ride through the beautiful Belizean rain forest.
Upon reaching the Che Chem Ha Camp in the foothills of the Maya Mountains of Belize, you will leave the horses and take a 20 minute hike in the jungle using the same paths used by the Ancient Mayans to the Che Chem Ha Cave, where you will have a guided tour of the cave for 1.5 to 2 hours. During the tour of the cave, you will get to learn about its history and see all the original potteries, some intact and some broken, exactly where they were left by the Mayans.
Afterwards, you will hike back to the camp to enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, you will have the option to cool off in a beautiful and refreshing fresh water creek for about 30 minutes before riding back to the ranch. You will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the tour.

We had an amazing experience on this tour. We want to thank Kurt (Kirk, sorry we cant agree on which it is!) our driver who gave us a little history of the area and got us to the ranch safely and quickly. We want to thank Jose Jr our horseback guide for the 3 hours of jungle experience and education on the local plants and animals, we were interested, safe, and comfortable the entire time! Finally thank you to William and his adorable dogs who were our guide through the Che Chem Ha cave, an amazing look back into the Mayan civilization thousands of years ago. If you get the chance, I highly recommend this trip. Depending on time of year, be sure to be rested, it can be somewhat strenuous a day but well worth the effort!
