About this activity
The Kayak fishing and crocodile observation tour begins in the morning hours between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. You will be picked up in a transport minivan from your comfortable and cozy hotel in San Jose, Heredia or Alajuela. Feel free to take along a backpack or carry-on if you need to as the vehicle has enough space for cargo.

The drive is approximately one hour and forty minutes from San Jose to Punta Leona beach. On the way there you can enjoy a view of the mountainous costa rican landscape with layers of hills and mountains covered in different shades of green forests.

Three quarters of the way at the Tarcoles river we will make a short stop to walk across the Tarcoles river bridge for a chance to observe the crocodiles in their natural habitat. If you haven not seen many crocodiles this will be a unique experience considering it is so many of them at the bed of the river as well as swimming in it. The crocodile range from babies to full grown adults ranging as to up to more than four meters in length. Feel free to take your camera or mobile phone to take pictures. During the short stop you can also visit the local restaurant and souvenir shop at the same location if you would like to take a gift or something to remember back with you.

Once back on the road it will be about 30 minutes to the final destination of Punta Leona where you can enjoy the warm sun, white sand, the crystal clear waters, the sound of the those gentle tides as they wash ashore and you can simply relax underneath one of the many almond trees. The beach is one of the more peaceful and attractive beaches in northern Puntarenas and the only 5 star beach in the central pacific region of Costa Rica. In addition to the white sand and almond trees that surround this small but heavenly site, the place is perfect for a swim or snorkel around a coral reef found on the beach. It is a place that becomes more popular every day among national and foreign tourists because of its beauty.

Near the beach there is also the Punta Leona refuge, created over 25 years ago to protect the region's varied flora and fauna, consisting primarily of lush rainforests and also functions as a research center for birds and mammals as well as a habitat for more than 330 birds and different species.

Upon arrival the equipment will be unloaded and you will be provided safety instructions related to the tour, kayaking and fishing.

Lunch will be coordinated depending on if there are any changes on the pick up and arrival time, normally it can be before the main activity or somewhere in between.
