Pass By: Iglesia de Sarchi, Main Street, Sarchi 21201 Costa Rica

Learn about sloths, visit an animal sanctuary and explore typical towns of Costa Rica on this Half Day Trip from San Jose. You will be picked up in the morning from your San Jose Hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and then drive to the West Side of the Central Valley, where you will visit an animal rescue center specialized in treating sloths.

At this sanctuary you will visit a few enclosed areas where the treated sloths are kept, called “Sloth Gardens”, where you will learn with your guide everything about these wonderful animals. Other wild animals of Costa Rica are treated at this sanctuary and you can learn about them as you walk through the place with your guide. Observe other wild animal species that are treated in this place and that will be released into the wild, such as monkeys, kinkajous, macaws, exotic birds and others.

Following you will go to the folkloric town of Grecia, where you will visit its iconic Metal Church built in the year 1840.

Continuing with your trip you will visit the Town of Sarchi and its famous Oxcart Factory, where you will learn the process of making Costa Rican Typical Oxcarts, the country’s National Symbol of Work. At this factory you will have the opportunity to see the skilled artisans painting typical oxcarts free hand and will also have the chance to do souvenir shopping at their large store. At the end of your visit in Sarchi you will go to the Town’s Central Park to observe the Biggest Oxcart in the world, which is holding the Guinness World Record. After visiting all of these great sites you will back to your San Jose Hotel.

My husband and I were the only ones on the tour; this made it easy to be shown around by the guide. With a larger group of people it would have been very crowded at the animal sanctuary and the oxcart factory. Neither of these places were very large so it did not take long to see everything.
