Stop At: Irazu Volcano National Park, Costa Rica

After pickup at your central San Jose hotel, travel by comfortable coach on a scenic 1-hour journey to the Chirripó River.

Once you arrive at the river, take in the stunning scenery of red rock and lush green vegetation. Near the Irazu volcano, the river sports an orange tint from volcanic sulphur deposits that have washed into the water. Your expert guide provides a safety briefing, paddling instructions and all rafting equipment as you get outfitted in your lifejacket, helmet and paddle. Then you're ready to hit the river!

Stop At: Chirripo National Park, San Gerardo de Rivas Costa Rica

Enjoy the adrenaline rush as you raft through waves and holes on more than 20 Class III rapids. Expect to spend about two hours on the river with a lot of action throughout the adventure. At the halfway point, refuel at a rest stop where your guide provides a platter of fresh tropical fruit.

Stop At: Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo, North Of San Jose 19 km, San Jose 10104 Costa Rica

After the fun and thrills of rafting the Chirripó River, dry off and enjoy the delicious eats as you share stories about your rafting adventures. While riding back to San Jose, take in the beautiful landscape around you as you pass through Braulio Carrillo National Park.

This activity is sort of ok but let me tell you the truth: it says you get picked up at your hotel. Truth: someone walks to your hotel to pick you up and you walk 15 minutes with them to reach the van. The ad says you get the use of a wet suit. Truth: the wet suits are old and ripped. It says that you have a professional English speaking guide. Truth: the guide speaks limited English. The ad says that you have a guaranteed security team. Truth: I don't have any idea what that is but we didn't have one. More truth: the water is so cold that you should be told to bring VERY warm clothing to wear after the rafting. The sauna is not warm, the showers are cold. The zip lining is poor and the gloves are ripped. On the positive side: our raft guide Cesear was friendly and helpful. IF I had known then what I know now, I would have gone with a different company not with: Bamba Experience.

The water was at a low level and that was disappointing but our guide Stanley made the ride interesting and fun! He was funny, informative and open to our questions. Stanley was the reason the rafting turned out to be a great time! The fruit snack and jumping off the edge of the hill in to the water was an added bonus. I would recommend this excursion! Ask for Stanley - he was great!!!

Beto was a wonderful guide--both on and off the water. Wali was a skilled driver who kept us safe on mountain roads between San Jose and the River. Beto is a skilled and sympathetic teacher. He's got clear communication skills and is able to anticipate what novice paddlers will do on the water. He got us through some challenging stretches of river and we all had a great time while doing it! I would definitely book this trip again!
