The oldest town in Neuquén. It´s a reflection of Nuequen´s history, tradition, religion, Mapuche culture; and is the gateway to the Lanín National Park. It has excellent places for sport fishing such as the rivers Chimehuín, Malleo, Aluminé, Quilquihue. You can also enjoy beautiful landscapes from the Epulafquen, Huechulafquen, Tromen lakes, or appreciate the exotic thermal springs of Epulafquen.

It´s the largest lake in the Lanín National Park. It drains at the East end into the Chimehuin River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean through the Collón Curá, Limay and Negro rivers.

Its name comes from the Mapuche language Huechu (big) and Laufquen (lake): "big lake".

With 412,000 hectares, located northwest of the province of Neuquén, the Lanín National Park protects the Andean-Patagonian forests since 1937. It owes its name to the Lanín volcano, which rises in the northern sector of the Park and surpasses the surrounding peaks. more than 1,500 meters. Its asymmetrical peak, always covered in snow, can be seen in the distance, dominating the landscape.

The Paimun Lake is a mirror of water of 16 km2 of surface surrounded by snowy mountains and leafy forests where inhabits a varied fauna rich in red deer, foxes, wild boars, hares, otters.

Its north coasts are flat, with dark volcanic sand, while in the east one can find cliffs. This point was formerly used as a passage from Chile to the south of the Lanín volcano.

The whole area that goes from Huechulafquen to Paimún is ideal for walks, camping and fishing.
