Pass By: San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region, Chile

Your day trip from San Pedro de Atacama begins with hotel pickup from the Hotels on the pick up list (Hotels list with pick up included: Hosteria San Pedro de Atacama, Casa de don Tomas, Altiplánico, Kimal and Poblado Kimal, Cumbres, Iorana Tolache, NOI Casa Atacama, Don Raúl, Tulor). If your Hotel is not included on the list, please approximate directly to the meeting point located at Ignacio Carrera Pinto #451, San Pedro de Atacama, at the same time specified.

Stop At: Pukara de Quitor, 3 km Northwest of the Town of San Pedro de Atacama, San Pedro de Atacama 1410000 Chile

Next, head to Pukará de Quitor, another set of archeological ruins just north of San Pedro de Atacama. Spend 45 to 60 minutes at this site, which was a fortress built out of stone by the Atacama people to defend against potential enemies. Dating back to the 12th century, the fort was built on a summit overlooking the San Pedro river. Explore the defensive wall, watchtowers and crumbling walls, reconstructed several centuries after Spanish conquistadors took the fortress by force in 1540.

Stop At: San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region, Chile

Then continue your tour back to San Pedro de Atacama to visit its historic downtown where you will gain a deeper insight of the Atacama culture. Listen to your guide as you visit the Church of San Pedro de Atacama, a national monument built from adobe and cactus wood.

Stop At: Aldea de Tulor, Avda Tulor S/N Aylllu de Coyo, San Pedro de Atacama Chile

To continue our Archaeological experience, head to the archeological site of Tulor, about 5 miles (8 km) outside of town. Spend about 45 minutes to an hour at the site with your guide, checking out the ancient village’s circular mud walls and learning about the site’s history, which dates back to 300 BC, according to carbon dating.

After our historical and cultural experience in the important archaeological sites we visited, we will return our trip back to San Pedro de Atacama. The drop off will be at the same point as where you were picked up (meeting point or Hotels from the list)
