Pintxos, known in other parts of Spain as "tapas", are small snacks served on a piece of bread. Unlike "tapas", pintxos must be paid for and typically have a toothpick through them, hence the name pintxo (Basque for spike). They have evolved over time and the toothpick is no longer an essential feature.

Nowadays, you can find a variety of these miniature representations of Basque cuisine, from simple, traditional ones to small, delicious works of art. Pintxos are made using typical products from the area and in every town or city you will find areas where pintxo bars are concentrated.
