6 h
About this activity
Get to know Tenerife’s traditional gastronomy as you visit wine cellars, and some of the most representative places of the Island called ‘Guachinches’. These are typical and traditional establishments where you can try delicious home-made food, and local wine. You will be able to try their best dishes, made with the best of its local production and the heart of its people.
This tour starts at ‘La Casa del Vino’, where you would taste 3 different wines (red, white, and rosé) with different types of Canarian cheeses. You will know more about the wonderful history of Tenerife’s wine and will try some popular meat stocks. After this, you will visit ‘Casa Lito’ a ‘guachinche’ located in Santa Úrsula, where you will try delicious starters as roasted cheese with ‘mojo’, ‘escaldón’ (fish or meat stock thickened with gofio), papas con mojo (traditional home-made chips), traditionally-made fried eggs, and ‘ropa vieja’ (chickpeas, chicken, beef or pork, potatoes, tomatoes, onion, garlic, stock, and other ingredients). The next stop will be ‘Don Trino’, a place where you will try roasted dishes as churrasco (i.e. roasted beef), chops, goat meat, pork meat or rabbit.
The last stop would be at ‘Bodegas Monje’. Here you will enjoy a guided visit through a traditional wine cellar and will drink a delicious cup of coffee as you watch the beautiful landscape of Tenerife’s North coast.
This tour lasts 6 hours approximately every week from Tuesday to Saturday. Tour guides will be guiding the group at all times and there may be more than one, depending on the group size. The ‘Guachinches’ chosen may change depending on closing times, holidays, etc. (by law, these establishments are only supposed to open for a part of the year.) In those cases you will be guided to other guachinches with the same characteristics, location and permits.
Although this tour is mainly for adults, there are children’s menu options in all ‘guachinches’. Children (ages 3-11) get 50% off, and kids (ages 0-2) are free.
