Lost City Trek - 5 days

Itinerary

Day 1: Santa Marta - Mamey - Camp 1

Stop At: Catedral de Santa Marta, Carrera 17 14, Santa Marta 470004 Colombia
The guide will pick us up at our accommodation in Santa Marta and you will meet up with the rest of the group. We will leave for Mamey where we will take an off road tour of 2 ½ hours by truck. Once we arrive in Mamey, we will eat lunch together and begin our trek with a 4 hour hike.We will be passing by rivers and waterfalls, where we can swim and enjoy the lush nature that surrounds us. Finally, we are going to arrive at “Campamento 1 (Camp 1)” around 6:30 pm, where dinner will be served and we spend the night in hammocks.

Day 2: Camp 1 - Mutanzi - Camp 2

Stop At: Buritaca, Santa Marta Colombia
We start the day with an early breakfast and then begint the excursion, a descent until reaching the Buritaca´s River valley. Along the way, we will stop for lunch and pass by the Mutanzi indigenous village, which is inhabited by people of the Kogui community. Here, we can get a glimpse of their way of life. Afterwards, we will continue our trek for 4 hours until we reach our accommodation for the night, a cabin where we will dine and spend the night in hammocks or beds.

Day 3: Camp 2 - Sierra Nevada - Camp 3

Stop At: Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Minca Colombia
We will have breakfast and begin a walk of roughly 4 ½ hours through the paths of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Along the way, we will make several stops to rest and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We will pass through several places where remains of the ancient inhabitants of the area still exist and that the locals still tend to and use to perform their customs. Finally, we are going to cross the Buritaca river before arriving at the cabin where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Camp 2 - Mamey - Santa Marta

Stop At: Lost City, Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia
We will have breakfast early and start the trek up the famous 1200 steps that lead up to La Ciudad Perdida (The Lost City), once we arrive at the top of the stairs, we can get our first view of this amazing location. Here, we partake in a professional guided tour about the history and secrets of this magical place. At the end of the tour, we have free time to explore The Lost City on our own during the rest of the morning. After we stayed at the lost city for a little while longer, we will eat and start the return to “Campamento 2 (Camp 2)” where we will have dinner and spend the night before we embark on the last stretch to Santa Marta on the next day.

Day 5: Camp 2 - Mamey - Santa Marta

Stop At: Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia
After a good breakfast, we will start our return to Santa Marta. We are going to take a route that will take us on an excursion that will take us through waterfalls and rivers where we can swim and refresh ourselves until arriving at Mamey. In Mamey, a truck will be waiting for us after we had lunch and whose driver will safely return us to Santa Marta, where we will arrive around 5:00 pm to finally say goodbye to the guide and the new friends we made on our adventure.
