About this activity
Visit: Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino

The Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino was founded on February 2, 1608, by the canon of the Cathedral of Santa Marta Francisco de Godoy y Cortesía with the name of "La Florida San Pedro Alejandrino", in memory of the Spanish martyr Pedro Godoy.

With the passing of time and history, the hacienda changes owners 15 times; among which stand out noble names such as Mondragón, Orozco, Zubiría, De Mier among others. On January 9, 1808, Don Faustino de Mier y Teran bought the hacienda for $ 11,773 pesos, but years later this property was confiscated for not collaborating with the patriot cause.

At the end of the second decade of the 19th century, the hacienda was awarded to the Spanish gentleman Don Joaquín de Mier y Benítez, a great businessman, who intensified sugarcane crops for the production of panela, rum, and honey. When Don Joaquín de Mier passed away in 1861, his son Manuel Julián de Mier inherited the estate, who later sold it to the Magdalena Department on February 2, 1891, in the amount of $ 24,000 pesos, with Dr. Ramón Goenaga as governor. And in 1891, it is declared a National Historic Monument.

Today it is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city of Santa Marta and is managed by the Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation.

Everything in this melancholic and victorious site, speaks about the glories of the Liberator and of his bitterness. Everything evokes that prodigious existence that he had in the battlefields, the splendors of victory and the shine of the holy sacrifice; the lights of genius and of maximum eloquence will always be remembered in his work as a statesman and throughout their struggles the supreme desire for disinterested idealism.
