About this activity

Sample itinerary

Day 1

Our bus picks us up at Santiago and we then travel to inland Galicia. We travel north to the hilltop Parador in Monforte de Lemos at the heart of Ribeira Sacra. We dine together in the Parador.

Day 2

10am departure for visit to Ramon Losada’s winery in Panton, from which we visit one of his vineyards by the Miño.

In the middle of the day we visit and lunch at Adega Algueira, a very high class winery near the Sil canyons, where Fernando Gonzalez makes a range of excellent reds and whites (from local varieties) that are highly rated by Parker. The landscapes are astonishing and we marvel at the way that man can overcome nature to make brave and noble wines both over lunch at Algueira and on a river cruise down the Sil in the afternoon that gives the best vantage point for the almost vertical vineyards. Dinner not included.

Day 3

Breakfast, then 9.30am departure for morning visits to the premier wineries in the premier sub region of the Rias Baixas - the Val do Salnes. This is the area that revolutionized Spanish white wines in the 80s and 90s and sets the standard for great delicate Albariños. Firstly we visit Pazo de Señorans, an old Galician country house that makes one of the very best (and best loved) Albariños and then we make our way to Cambados for a visit and tasting at the very elegant (wines and buildings of) Palacio de Fefiñanes. We then have lunch by the Atlantic at Maria Jose’s Cambados seafood restaurant.

After lunch we head south to the Parador at Pontevedra, which is in a 16th century Renaissance Palace and enjoy a light tapas dinner in the old town.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a 10am departure for a visit to Marcial Dorado’s Quinta do Feital estate on the Portuguese sideof the border at Melgaco, followed by a visit to Pazo de Lusco on the Spanish side of the border. We return to Pontevedra for an evening Galician wine dinner in a Pontevedra wine bar.

Day 5

Breakfast in the hotel, followed by the end of the tour (transfers not included but could be arranged).
