About this activity
Half-Day Tour:

Your Santo Domingo private sightseeing tour starts with hotel pickup; then head with your guide to the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial), the city’s World Heritage–listed historical district on the west bank of the Ozama River.

On foot, explore the Colonial Zone with your guide, admiring the 16th-century Spanish architecture and listening to commentary about the city’s history and culture. Walk along narrow streets, and visit attractions like the former residence of Diego Columbus (Christopher Columbus’ son), whose palace now houses the Alcázar de Colón Museum.

Stroll down the cobblestoned Calle las Damas, one of the oldest streets in the New World, dating back to the early 1500s, and stop at the National Pantheon, a former Jesuit church that’s now the final resting place of prominent citizens of the Dominican Republic.

Walk down Calle el Conde, a pedestrian-only street that runs to the riverfront, and pass through Parque Colón, the central square of the Colonial Zone. Here you’ll visit one of Santo Domingo’s most important landmarks, the Catedral Primada de America, the oldest cathedral in the Western Hemisphere.

Your walking tour ends here, where you can stay on your own, if you wish, or be returned to your hotel.

Full-Day Tour:

After following the same itinerary described above in the half-day tour, the full-day Santo Domingo sightseeing tour continues to the Colonial Market, where you can browse handcrafted objects and perhaps purchase some as gifts or souvenirs.

Then make a photo stop at the Columbus Lighthouse, a monument on the east side of the Ozama River, before heading down to the Malecón, where you can look out at the Caribbean as you walk along the seawall. Next, visit the National Palace (Palacio Nacional), a neoclassical building that houses the offices of the Dominican Republic’s president.

Your tour then ends with hotel drop-off.

A set-menu lunch is included on the full-day tour and takes place at Atarazana Restaurant in the Colonial Zone.
