About this activity
This bus tour takes you to the Center of the island. On the highest point, you can visit the hidden gems of the area. The first stop of the tour is the 16th century Monastery of Prophet Elias which was built on the highest point of the Island 1804 feet (550 meters) above sea level. From there you have a panoramic view of the whole island and it is breathtaking.

After Profitet Elias, continue to the village of Pyrgos, with its Cycladic architecture, Byzantine churches, and a Venetian Castle. The village is one of the highest points of the Island and the View is amazing overlooking the North West part of Santorini. From Pyrgos, head to Athinios where we board the boat King Thiras. The first stop at the King Thiras boat is the Volcanic Island of Nea Kameni where we walk up the ascending soil path and approach the crater of the still active Volcano to reach the crater.

After reaching the crater you walk down the dirt path to the boat to continue our journey to the Island of Palea Kameni where the boat stops around 164 feet (50 meters) from the opening, and you can swim in the green sulphur waters of the hot springs, wet your feet, or just enjoy the view.

The journey continues after the hot springs to Thirassia Island which was once part of Santorini before the big Explosion of the Volcano. There you stay for two hours and you have the opportunity to do some activities like swimming on the beach of Thirassia, have lunch next to the Sea or just explore the Village of Manolas with its winding steps and traditional houses.

King Thiras brings us then to the port of Amoudi underneath Oia where you walk up the steps to reach Oia in order to enjoy one of the most amazing sunsets in the world. The tour ends 30 minutes after the sunset when you will gather at the pickup point in Oia where the bus is waiting to bring you back to the point where you started from.

This tour is jam packed with activities well worth the money. I would not recommend this tour to people who are not physically active. There is an enormous amount of hiking and stairs, may not be for everyone. I do recommend you wear tennis or a light hiking shoe. Please stay away from flip-flops.

We were told to meet at the old medical center in Fira but there is no such place however, there is a medical center/health clinic which is what they meant literally on a street corner. We almost missed the tour. After being picked up, we went up to the monestary for a quick picture then down to the boat. This is 90 a boat tour so don't expect to see much of the island. We went to where the volcano is to see the crater, you can see another crater that is quite a hike up from the first. They then took us to where the hot springs were for a swim but we were warned we had to be really good swimmers. Not sure what that meant and the actual springs were far away from the boat so we opted out. After that, we had lunch at about 2:00pm which was on our own. It was the most overpriced, mediocre lunch of our island visit. We then headed to the old port of Oia. Once here, we had to take the worst 300 steps ever. These old steps actually had 5 steps within each step up. We called it the trail of tears and felt no longer on vacation! They offered donkeys for a charge to get to the top but we refused because we thought it was cruel. We had to stop several times to rest before finally reaching the top. We were offered no alternative for this other than a donkey ride. The sunset was beautiful after which, we were returned to Fira. This is an ALL DAY, active tour. You will get your money's worth and will be exhausted. Please note, we are able-bodied adults and STILL had a difficult time during some parts of this tour second crater hike, swim, 300 steps. Older folks and/or those with mobility issues should think twice before signing up for this tour.

It was a great tour of the major points of the island. Bring some cash since the volcano tour section isn't included in the price. Don't think you're gonna get the best experience from the Oia Village visit. It's gonna be crowded since it's a major tourist spot.
