Authentic Brazilian Market Tour and Cooking Class with a Local in Sao Paulo

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Your experience begins by meeting your host Carlos at his apartment. Carlos will take you to Sao Paulo's main farmers market, called Mercadão. This market is one neighborhood away from Carlos’ apartment, which can be easily reached by the subway or Uber. Here you will find a wide variety of foods – from fresh vegetables and fruits to meat, poultry and seafood of all kinds, pasta, sweets and top of the line spices from different parts of the world. After your market tour, you will return to his apartment for a cooking class where you will help him make 1-2 dishes that you will be eating later. You may learn how to make pernil, a slow cooked Brazilian stew made with pork and mandioquinha (Brazilian root vegetable similar to a potato), and farofa (toasted cassava flour mixture, similar to bread crumbs). Your cooking class is expected to last for an hour, after which you will share the meal you have cooked together.
