About this activity
Your food and sightseeing tour of São Paulo begins at Japan House, which is a pioneering cultural centre in Brazil. Next door, you can admire a beautiful mural of the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer by well-known Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra. As we walk we will try some delicious Brazilian and Portuguese desserts and popular local snacks as your guide takes you to his or her favourite places to eat in the city.
As we stroll around the avenue, we'll see different architectural styles and designs, such as French/1930s at the Casa das Rosas and modern examples like SESC Avenida Paulista, boasting incredible views across the city. Here we will stop to learn about brigadeiro (a delicious Brazilian fudge truffle) as we admire the city vistas.
To feel and live like a typical local — known as a Paulistano — you absolutely HAVE to try our famous coxinha (fried dough filled with seasoned chicken) and sugar cane juice, which we will taste as we saunter around Paulista Avenue like the locals do!
A change of scenery is next as we continue to explore the city. Feel the out-of-this-world Star Wars vibe as we pass by one of the city’s most iconic buildings, the FIESP.
This might be a good time to say that São Paulo is not all about buildings and architecture. In the middle of all this rock forest, we will explore another side to the city in Trianon Park. Created in 1892, this beautiful green space was a frequent stomping ground for noble men and women of the time.
Next, we’ll head across Paulista Avenue to the stunning MASP museum, a landmark in modern Brazilian architecture boasting a carefully curated programme of events throughout the year.
We'll keep mixing culture, food and architecture at our next stop, the Conjunto Nacional Complex, synonymous with culture, art and commerce in the city. This 60-year old cultural and urban space is full of shops, restaurants and offices, and is also home to Livraria Cultura bookstore, a popular spot where Paulistanos go to relax and enjoy a good book. While we’re here we'll have the chance to try one of their delicious pastel de natas and indulge your taste buds a bit.
As we get to the other end of Paulista Avenue, we'll witness another impressive work of Eduardo Kobra, featuring the most famous Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver, Ayrton Senna.
Our penultimate stop will be a hidden passageway, known as the Literary Passage of Consolação, an underground walkway for pedestrians, built in 1970 to facilitate the crossing of Consolação Street. This will lead us towards the Moreira Sales Institute where we’ll make our final stop of the tour and enjoy a cup of coffee and another splendid view of Paulista Avenue.
If you wish to continue your journey into the São Paulo lifestyle, you can join our Vila Madalena Art & Booze tour, which starts right after this tour ends!
