Japanese Traditional Performing Arts Experience in Sapporo
1. Arrive and meet your instructor at Kimono Kobo MAMEGURA, a kimono studio located 3 minutes walk from Nishisen 6-jo Station on the Sapporo City Tram, or 12 minutes walk from Nishi Juitchome Station on Sapporo Subway Tozai Line. (5 min)
2. Watch the instructor perform Shishimai dance which is the Japanese form of lion dance, performed in many Asian countries with unique local twits. Watch and appreciate his intense movement as well as the ferocious yet somewhat comical face of the lion mask. (10 min)
3. Watch the instructor masterfully perform Kasa Mawashi, the traditional performing art of umbrella spinning while balancing various objects on it, which is often performed in celebratory events such as weddings. (20 min)
4. Try your hand at Shishimai dance and Kasa Mawashi. (30 min)
5. Try out Hyottoko Odori, a comical traditional dance performed while wearing a Hyottoko mask or an Okame mask, both of which are known for their goofy expressions. (20 min)
6. Take many pictures of yourself wearing various costumes to commemorate the experience. (10 min)
