About this activity
Visit: Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, 3407 109th St SW, Everett, WA 98204-1351

While the education these beautiful and rare artifacts provide to the world is significant, we hope you take special pleasure in knowing that these historic planes and tanks are not meant simply for display in a static museum environment. As part of the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, their destiny is to take to the skies and cruise the ground once again at year-round events hosted by the museum. Stop by during one of our signature event days to see a tank cruise mere feet from where you are standing or to feel the wind of a Spitfire as it rushes past. This rare opportunity to re-live history will leave you in awe and give you something to talk about for years to come.

The operation of these meticulously restored artifacts is made possible by highly trained mechanics working year-round to maintain and rebuild them in front of your very eyes. The job is never easy. Mechanics must become experts in a wide variety of foreign and domestic aircraft and engines, which haven’t been operated for generations. When hard to find parts can’t be found, they must be made from scratch. As you might expect with vintage pieces of complex machinery, the job is never ending. In the summer, the mechanics are prepping the planes for flight and, in the winter, they are tearing them down and inspecting every part. Walking through the hangars you will not only see lifeless artifacts. You will find people working on them. Don’t be shy, ask a question or two to them men and women who know these pieces best and get a true hands on look at what goes into operating the marvelous machines in front of you.

The Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum is a truly unique experience. With 28 aircraft and over 60 vehicles to dazzled guests, you will need an amazing guide to help you cover the nearly 75,000 sq. ft. of expansive exhibit space. Ask for a free tour with an FHCAM Docent. Your Docent will walk you through the hangars and explain each artifact and the role it played in history. As you tour through, don’t forget to stop by FHCAM’s newest exhibit, Why War: The Causes of Conflict. This one of a kind exhibit explores the reasons countries go to war and puts context behind the war machines living in our museum. Explore this highly interactive room built to tell the stories of the people and technology from world wars.
