About this activity
Start your day with complimentary pick up at your hotel in Sedona at 7:30 am. Your guide will show you the fascinating southwest as you travel in air-conditioned comfort.

Your first stop will be Tuzigoot National Monument, a 1,000 year-old ancient ruin inhabited by the ancient Anasazi. Learn about the ways of these Ancient Ones, and understand how they thrived in the harsh environment of the Arizona high desert. Discover a fascinating culture, capable of expert architecture, astonishing astronomical knowledge, refined agricultural skills and sophisticated artworks. You will be able to enter one of the major structures and marvel at their masterful building style.

The next stop will be Montezuma Castle and Well. Montezumas Castle is an ancient five-story cliff dwelling with 20 separate rooms and is situated in a stunning, 300-foot limestone cliff. Nearby Beaver Creek ensured survival for these people and their farming life style. A maze of canal systems still attests to the farming skills of these Ancient Ones, who successfully grew corn, squash, beans and cotton here. Enjoy the half-mile walk around this ancient ruin and use the opportunity to take lots of pictures. Montezuma Well, just a few miles to the north, is a spring-fed sink whole overlooked by pueblo structures in the cliffs. This well plays an important role in the mythology of the Native people of the region.

Continue your journey up Oak Creek Canyon, which rightfully earned its reputation as one of the most scenic roads in America. You will pass Arizona´s tallest mountain, a 12,000-foot volcano, in Flagstaff, and then enjoy lunch at the historic Cameron Trading Post Restaurant. At this historic Trading Post you can also find some of the most precious handcrafted artwork of the Zuni, Hopi and Navajo tribes and, if you like, purchase souvenirs.

From there, you will then explore Wupatki National Monument - a four-story Northern Sinagua ruin with more than 100 rooms. Stroll along a paved path past the "tall house", the ball court, the kiva and the blowhole.

Your last stop will take you on a short walk through the Bonito Lava Flow Field of Sunset Crater National Monument. Sunset Crater erupted in 1085 AD and is Arizona`s youngest volcano, its lava flow field served as a training ground for the Apollo mission to the moon.

Your day exploring five National Monuments in Arizona will end at around 6:30pm back at your hotel in Sedona.
