About this activity
Seocheon seafood specialty markets
Seocheon Specialty Market occupies a prime location within the Seocheon-eup area, and has accompanied Seocheon-gun in its growth throughout the modern days.
It acquired modern facilities with the relocation of the market in 2004, and has continued to grow as a specialty market for the 12 years ever since.
The National Institute of Ecology
National Institute of Ecology is a research, exhibition, and educational center housing various animals and plants from world five climates and regions including the tropics, desert climate, the Mediterranean, temperate climate, and the polar region. Fauna and flora from the Korean Peninsula's ecosystem can also be seen here. The Institute’s Ecorium showcases living ecosystem exhibitions, housing 1,900 plants and 280 animals in an area of 21,000㎡ to help people understand the relations between climate and ecology. The outdoor exhibition area is divided into 5 sections, from Korea’s representative wetland ecological system to various international plants, rare plants grown on the high mountain, Korean representative deer species' habitat space, pond ecology and others.
Hansan Sogokju (Korea Oldest Traditional Wine )
A traditional liquor with over 1,500 years of history, Hansan Sogokju is brewed in Hansan-myeon, Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do Province. The liquor was designated as Chungcheongnam-do Province’s Intangible Cultural Asset No. 3 on July 3, 1979 and is widely enjoyed for its exceptional taste and fragrance.
Hansan Ramie Fabric Hall (Unesco Heritage)
Here is an experiential venue to learn about the excellence and historical value of UNESCO-recognized Hansan ramie fabric (Mosi), a traditional Korean natural fiber. Many visitors can understand the traditional culture of Hansan ramie fabric that has continued for 1,500 years in Seocheon-gun and enjoy handicraft and clothes made with the ramie fabric. Hansan ramie fabric was given as a regional tribute to the king and has continued on as a local specialty product that is notable from past to present.
Sinseong-ri Reed Field
As one of Korea’s top four fields of reeds, Sinseong-ri Reed Field (nearly 60,000 pyeong) has also been popularized as a filming location of the mega-hit Korean movie, “JSA.”
To protect the natural environment, only 2-3% of the entire area of field of reed has been developed into a park. About 100,000 migratory birds (40 species) pass through every winter (especially in December and January). In fall, the golden fields of reeds create a romantic atmosphere along the banks of the glittering Geumgang River.
