Stop At: Shanghai city and the Bund tours, ___300_, Shanghai 200050 China

The guide will pick you in the hotel lobby at 7:30 AM.

Yu Garden: Four hundred years ago, a merchant spent almost twenty years—and all his life savings—to build a garden in order to please his parents in their old age. “Yu” means peace and health in Chinese. Over the past several centuries, the Yu Garden has been restored and reopened several times, but has almost always been in disarray. In 1956, the Shanghai city government took over and restored it to its former splendour, making it a peaceful oasis in the heart of bustling Shanghai. Outside the garden gates, the Old Bazaar is the perfect place to strike a bargain or chat with locals selling a variety of wares and souvenirs. Next proceed to Confucius Temple.

Followed by walk along the famous Bund: The Bund is the famous waterfront regarded for hundreds of years as the symbol of Shanghai. On the Bund side of the river, magnificent colonial architecture represents the splendor of old Shanghai. Across the water, enormous skyscrapers rise up to create a futuristic skyline that has to be seen to be believed . Next proceed to Pearl Center.

Enjoy Shanghai Cuisine at local restaurant

Xintiandi & Former French Concession: This fashionable pedestrian street is composed of traditional Shikumen (“stone gate”) style houses that now serve as boutique shops and restaurants. Tianzifang, once an unassuming laneway in a factory area, has been transformed into the art district of Shanghai. Here you will find many art galleries, private studios, craft shops, and some of the most charming bars and cafes in Shanghai. Next proceed to Jade Buddha Temple

Jade Buddha Temple: This is an active temple that attracts large numbers of visitors, both local and from overseas. It is one of Shanghai’s few Buddhist temples, and was built between 1911 and 1918. It houses 70 resident monks, and the centerpiece is a sitting Buddha carved out of white jade and encrusted with jewels, measuring over two meters tall and rumored to weigh over 1000 kg (2200 pounds). Next proceed to Silk Museum.

Suzhou Silk Museum: The Suzhou Silk Museum documents the history and development of Chinese silk production and embroidery starting from 2000 BC. Exhibits include old looms with demonstrations, samples of ancient silk patterns, silk worms, and an explanation of sericulture (silk farming). In this impressive museum housed in a working silk factory, every detail in the silk making process is on display for guests to see up close. You will have a chance to watch the silkworms feasting on leaves and spinning their cocoons, and then walk on to see women stretching the silk to be made into duvets or other precious silk items. Next proceed to People’s Square and Shanghai Museum.

Shanghai Museum: This museum contains one of the finest collections of ancient Chinese art and antiques in the world. The distinctive building was designed in the shape of an ancient bronze cooking vessel, and contains 11 permanent and 3 rotating galleries. The museum has over 120,000 priceless pieces in its collection, including bronze, jade, ceramics, calligraphy, sculptures, paintings, furniture, imperial seals, and ancient coins.
