Day 1: Take a train to Lhasa from Shanghai

In the daytime, you can go to see the charming Yuyuan Garden by yourself, and then go to Shanghai Train Station for train to Lhasa. When entering the station, you need to present to the conductor your passport, China Visa, Tibet Travel Permit and train ticket. Then start to enjoy your memorable trip.

Day 2: On the Train to Lhasa

Today, on the first full-day, you will pass through two important provincial capitals in northwest China: Lanzhou and Xining. Traveling along on Qinghai-Tibet Railway, you will be able to enjoy the incredible scenery of the countries in Northwest China.

Day 3: Lhasa Arrival

Today, you will witness the most beautiful scenic view on the Qinghai Tibet Train. After arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the train station in Lhasa.

Day 4: Lhasa ( B )

After having breakfast, your guide will drive you to visit the splendid Potala Palace: the cardinal landmark in Lhasa. You will have a whole morning to explore the world-level architectural work: the White Palace, the Red Palace, the corridors, stairs and countless lama’s dormitory. Then, continuing to browse the Jokhang Temple, which is another UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterwards, you will go to the Barkhor street next to the temple, it is filled with pilgrims and street vendors, they usually sell the traditional Tibetan items such as prayer wheels, jewelry and more.

Day 5: Lhasa ( B,D )

You will visit two great monasteries of central Tibet: the Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. The Drepung Monatery was the central government until the 5th Dalai Lama built the Potala Palace to replace it. If you visit at the right time, you can also get a chance to watch the monks debate the Buddhist scriptures in Sera Monastery.

Day 6: Departure from Lhasa (B)

After eating breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station or the airport if you need.

  • Travelers are required to provide photocopy of passports and China L visas in advance
  • Please note that you will only be allowed to enter Tibet with a Tibet travel permit. Your local tour operator will help you apply for a Tibet permit (usually need at least 12 days), but be sure you have a passport which is valid for at least 6 months
  • A copy of your Tibet travel permit will be sent to you in advance. When entering into Shanghai Train Station, please present your Tibet travel permit, train ticket, passport, and Chinese visa to the conductor
  • Once the train ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa is booked, it can not be canceled by tour supplier. If customers cancel the tour after train ticket has been booked, they will be charged the cost of train ticket
  • A valid passport and China L Visa used to apply for Tibet Permit are required on the travelling period
  • Price is based on double occupancy. Single room supplement is subject to availability and additional charge
  • In June, July, or August, the hard or soft sleeper train tickets are difficult to purchase, tour supplier will recommend some transfer trains for choosing. Both sides will choose the better one.
