About this activity
In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Yuyuan Gardens, the city’s most famous example of the traditional gardens as historically kept by wealthy families in the Ming & Qing Dynasties. This traditional garden was first conceived in 1559, and is still a masterpiece of beautiful pavilions, miniature lakes, bridges and rock formations regardless of being damaged numerous times during the 19th century. After exploring the gardens, spend time wandering through the markets and bazaars of Shanghai’s Old Town. This is the perfect opportunity to get souvenir shopping done while soaking up the atmosphere of old Shanghai.
Following the visit to Yuyuan Gardens, we will take you to a Silk Factory where experts will help you see the process of silk making, from silkworm to finished product. Your guides can also help you explain how everything is made, and it’s the perfect place to get some souvenirs for friends and families at home. You’ll gain an understanding of the different qualities of silk, to make sure that you don’t get ripped off.
We will then bring you to Zhujiajiao, an ancient water village in Qingpu District of Shanghai. It is an ancient town that was built on the bank of Dianshan Lake and at the foot of DianshanHill within a beautiful scenic area. The village boasts 36 stone bridges and numerous rivers, with many ancient buildings line the riverbanks. There is also a cute little temple called Yuanjin Buddhist Temple, and the Kezhi Garden is worth a visit.
Following your visit to the water village, you will have time to wander along the market street past the shops back to the village entrance. With hundreds of small shop fronts selling local foods, arts and crafts, silk products and pearls, this makes for a complete experience, in all senses of the word. It is also the perfect time to get some souvenirs for friends and family at home.
After all this exploring, it will be time for foot massage. This will revive your feet so that you are ready to continue going the next day, regardless of how much walking you want to do! When your foot massage is finished, we will take you back to your hotel.
