About this activity
In a country like Thailand where Buddhism is practiced by more than 90% of the population, one can't miss the amazing temples while vacationing in this country. Buddhism is more a way of life as well as a religion, where its practitioners strive to achieve happiness through a combination of good deeds, meditation and the study of Buddhist philosophy. Temples play an important role in meeting people, socializing and spending some time away from the daily life. Thus the presence of thousands and thousands of temples in Thailand is almost a given. The Phang Nga province is no exception, and as you enter the realm of three stunning temples, you'll notice each is different with its own story.

You will head out from your hotel in the morning with your guide and driver and head into the Phang Nga province for a culturally-enlightening day. Carefully chosen due to their uniqueness, location, and characteristics, the three temples you visit cannot be found on your average tourist map, adding a local flavor to this day. Temples in Thailand often are, outside their function of worship, places where the local community seeks wisdom and guidance from resident monks and have long been a place for education of the younger generation. Especially in regions where there are no schools, temples serve as the only place for children to learn and gain understanding of the world they live in.

In random order and depending on the route, the inclusion of the Bang Rieng Temple will showcase how far one will go to get the ideal place to construct a temple. Situated high upon a mountain, it is the largest Temple pagoda in Phang Nga and commands breathtaking views across the whole province. The construction of this temple is a mix and match of three styles, often found in Thailand, namely Thai, Chinese, and Jedi– a special shrine, said to house a relic of the Lord Buddha.

Another important temple for the local community is the Dragon Cave Temple, constructed along a collection of stalagmites and stalactites; the name referring to the location inside a cave has put this temple and its importance in a league of its own. Its location may be unique but also knowing that the monks residing here are masters in making herbal medication, particularly for residents suffering from high blood pressure.

Finally, you will set your eyes on a 15-meter long golden, reclining Buddha at the Wat Suwan Khuha. Historically one of the older temples in the province, the Buddha image is particularly special because of its location in a cave and with dozens of macaque monkeys roaming around.

We are certain that you will look back with a much better understanding of Buddhism and its intricacies.
