We loved our tour guide, Branzo, who was as fluent in English as in Italian. We had an amazing time, far exceeding our expectations. The van was spacious and very comfortable. Branzo was so knowledgeable, both about Tuscan wines and Italy in general. Our first stop was in Montepulciano, a lovely Tuscan village and home to world-renowned Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. The first winery we visited, Talosa, is housed deep in caverns below the village in what had centuries ago had been a crypt. Two of us had visited Napa Valley and were familiar with wineries, but this one nevertheless was interesting in its uniqueness. The tasting was wonderful, and we found several wines we loved. Our second stop was another winery where lunch was served. This winery was situated on a gorgeous property overlooking Tuscan hillside vineyards. Lunch was a typical Italian pasta meal and very nice. We didn’t care much for their wines and didn’t buy any. Our third winery was in Montalcino, home of the famous Brunello wines. We absolutely loved this winery, Col di Lamo, one of the few women-owned wineries in Italy. Their facility was beautiful, and the wine bottles are beautifully designed and crafted. We loved her Brunello, which was very reasonably priced. This winery was a hidden gem! Our day included time to walk around both Montepulciano and Montalcino, both of which are worthy of a visit on their own merits. This tour was well worth the price!
