Contemporary Art In The Chianti Hills

The Chianti Sculpture Park is located about 10 km north of Siena. Spread over a mystical wooded area, it comprises a collection of site-specific sculptures and installations created by artists from all over the world. In the Park’s amphitheater, in a magical atmosphere concerts of classical music, jazz, opera, tango and other musical genres are held in June, July and August. Opposite the entrance to the park an ancient manufactory for terracotta has been transformed into a large art gallery. Among the artists involved are K. Nakamura (Japan), U. Christiansen (Denmark), M. Berrettini (Italy), C. Spath (Germany), Y. Heidar (Egypt), P.A. Méndez (Colombia), R. Cipollone (Italy), N. Bertoux (France), W. Furlong (United Kingdom), N. Barab (USA) and many others.

Moreover, in the Chianti region there is also the opportunity to visit Pievasciata (Contemporary Art Village). In this little hamlet and its immediate surroundings, nine artworks have been installed both by families and institutions. These installations are visible no matter which direction you come from, Siena, Gaiole in Chianti, Pianella, Vagliagli or Ponte a Bozzone. The idea was to further enhance this territory already famous for its wine and picturesque villages by making Pievasciata a Contemporary Art Village.
