Guided tour of Siena (Private)

The tour starts from of our office in the main square of Siena, Piazza del Campo. The guide will introduce you to the Palio telling about the rules of the race and the whole celebration that lasts four days, starting from the assignment of the horses to the Contradas (districts of Siena). You will also learn about the traditional rivalry between Contradas to which everyone in Siena participates from birth. You will visit Piazza del Campo, the most beautiful square in Italy, and discover the exquisite architecture of the Middle Ages, the impressive townhall (Palazzo Pubblico), that has been the seat of Local Government since the end of the 13th century.

From here you will continue onto the impressive private palaces, which line the main street, and learn about the history of the powerful Salimbeni and Tolomei families. During the tour you will stop to admire the Loggia della Mercanzia and the fascinating courtyard of the Chigi Palace, in the very heart of city.

The two-hour tour will proceed to the Duomo that is considered to be one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe, or to the Civic Museum where works of such artists as Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Simone Martini are kept.
