Braite Plateau is a typical case of culturally- modified forest, unique in Eastern Europe, based on a model brought by the Saxons who arrived here in the twelfth century. There are 608 oak trees on the Breite plateau, of which more than 450 are between 400 and 900 years old. Besides the oaks, the plateau is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna species, many of them protected under international conventions.
