Geylang Serai Morning Food Tour

The tour will begin at the Geylang Serai wet market at 09:30am unless you are being collected at your hotel by your guide in which case earlier.
We'll take a walk around the bustling market. Your Singabites expert will guide you through the different herbs and spices on display and explain their importnace in local cuisine, in particular Malay cuisine.
Folowing our market tour we'll take a seat at the hawker centre upstairs and begin sampling local dishes. We'll get stuck into Nasi Briyani, Putu Piring and Mee Rebus as we watch the daily going on around the centre.
After we've had our first tastings we take a stroll to burn off a few calories. We'll walk past local shops and businesses and your Singabites expert will explain the history of the area and its importance in Singapore's culture.
After this brief walk we'll sit down again and try some different dishes that bring in the Chinese influence as well as a few Indian flavours. It's important to remember that just because we are in the Malay enclave the food and culture of the area is not limited to just Malay.
Following our bites we'll head off again and take a walk through the local housing estate. There is an opportunity to visit a small urban garden and to see how the locals are growing their own food.
We visit one of Singapore's oldest food heroes on this tour. Kway Guan Huat have been making popiah skin in this shop house for 3 generations. We'll meet the family behind the legend and have a chance to learnhow to create our own popiah skins.
Our tour completes with some sweet tastings from a local bakery.
