About this activity
Learn about the colorful history of Singapore's most iconic river, once the lifeline and old port of the country. It transformed to a beautiful waterfront hub frequented by locals and tourists alike. Your walking tour starts at Raffles Place, which is Singapore's central business district and the center point of Singapore River. You’ll meet your local expert guide who will give you an introduction of Singapore River starting with Boat Quay, once the busiest part of Old Port of Singapore. There, you'll learn about the island's trade and economic activities at this historical quay, its gradual demise and eventual transformation to a nightspot. Thereafter, your guide will shift the focus to the Civic District, where you will learn about the past and present of Singapore by visiting iconic landmark such as The Parliament Building and find out more about the local government and legislature of Singapore or the historic Raffles Landing Site where Raffles (founder of modern Singapore) was believed to first set foot on the island in 1819. There will also be opportunity to cross beautiful historical bridges such as the Elgin Bridge and the Cavenagh Bridge and even explore the Fullerton Heritage Hotel settled right beside the river, which was formerly the General Post Office Building. The tour will end at the Merlion Park. Please arrive at the departure point 15 minutes in advance for registration.
