Singapore Shore Excursion: Singapore's Cultural Heritage Tour
4 h
About this activity
When your cruise ship docks in Singapore, your guide will take you by private vehicle to three districts that highlight the Island Republic's multicultural heritage. Embark on a discovery of Indian, Malay and Chinese traditions with your first stop in Little India.
As you enter Little India, you’ll be greeted by the strong, heady scent of spices and jasmine garlands – a feast for the senses! Walk with your guide past a treasure-trove of silverware, brassware, woodcarvings and colorful silk saris – all dazzling to the eye.
Stroll along Little India Arcade on Campbell Lane, a narrow pathway that winds through a cluster of restored shop houses. Stop among storefronts filled to the brim with Indian clothing, accessories, incense and even an Indian sweet shop selling delicious treats.
Next, your guide will accompany you to Arab Street, the center of Singapore's Muslim community including its focal point, the Sultan Mosque. Check out Singapore’s largest concentration of Muslim restaurants and shops selling merchandise from all over the Islamic world. Admire the riotous display of color, including antiques, jewelry, artifacts and basket ware. Your guide will point out the vibrant rolls of cloths and batiks that drape the walls and doorways of the prominent textile stores.
Finally, visit Chinatown, home to a sizeable community of Chinese immigrants, and walk along the narrow streets past refurbished and renovated shop houses. Your guide will inform you about the various teahouses, medicine shops, acupuncturists and calligraphers that continue to practice their trades as they have for generations.
You will have time to browse around the interesting stalls for local souvenirs before your cultural heritage tour ends with transport to the Singapore cruise port.
Worry-free Shore Excursion:We will ensure your timely return to the Singapore cruise port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. The lady who picked us up was an hour late but had a wonderful time with the tour. Took us through China town where we saw the Chinese New year To start the next week . We even bought a few nick nacks. Next we travelled through the Sultan Mospue, The Arab street with all the islamic cultures depicted, there outfits etc. This was followed by little India with the silk sarees, Jasmine scents etc. Since our hotel was situated across from Little India we got dropped off there. All in all it was a lovely way to see the city.
It was a great tour but the guide did not come prepared. He thought we were going on a city tour. The cultural tour was supposed to be 4 hours, but only lasted 3 hours. The tour was not complete.
truly wonderful private tour, Our Guide Lynette took us all around the cultural and business district of Singapore, explaining the history and growth of the city. beautifully. we took in the sights around the Fullerton hotel and the adjacent river basin. and were never rushed but well informed. this was a very good tour, and an insight in to Singapore
Our guide was outstanding..going over and above the line of duty. Not only was she very knowledgeable but very helpful. There were four of us and we had to go to the airport to forward luggage on to another stop. She saved us not only time, but a potential huge headache by stopping during our tour, guiding us to the right DHL counter ( cheaper by far than the airline) and helping to expedite the transaction all within the allotted tour time
An excellent way to see and understand Singapore, especially if your time is limited. The guide was knowledgeable about the history of the Hindu, Muslim and Chinese communities and the walk through their neighborhoods, with special attention to their customs, buildings and customs, was well-spent time.
