Lake Skadar is shared between two countries - Albania and Montenegro, and is an important historical and natural monument for Montenegrins. The surface of Skadar lake is 370-540m2. The Lake is one of the largest bird reserves in Europe, having 281 species and it is the last habitat of Pelicans in Europe. In the lakes immediate vicinity is the habitat of the grapevine used for producing the famous red wine Vranac, a product Montenegrins are extremely proud of! One of the most attractive towns on the shore of the lake is Virpazar, and thats one of our stops. The first mention of Virpazar dates back to 13th century. It was an important trade center built in the delta of the rivers. The old part of Virpazar is connected by bridges to the mainland, after which this settlement used to be called "a town on three bridges." Virpazar is a famous excursion site and setting-off spot when enjoying a cruise on Lake Skadar and visiting cultural and historical monuments, monasteries, and fortifications concentrated on the breathtaking islands called "little mounts". The rich flora and fauna, cultural and historical monuments, picturesque settlements, altogether makes the boat tour a special experience.
