Arriving in Sofia. Pick up and transfer to your hotel. Morning tour of the down-town area: the magnificent splendidly decorated Alexander Nevski Memorial Church; St. Sophia Basilica (6th century), one of the most valuable pieces of early Christian architecture of the Balkans; St. George's Rotunda (4th century), famous for its original structure and unique frescoes; Roman Serdica Fortifications (3rd-5th centuries). We will end the tour in front of the Palace of Justice, which is the beginning of the main shopping street. Next day after breakfast, we will drive to Plovdiv – the European Capital of Culture for 2019. The Thracians founded Plovdiv during the Neolithic period in the 2nd millennium BC. Guided tour of the city. Visit of the Roman Theatre from the 2nd century and walk on the cobbled streets in the Old town. Late afternoon drive to Sofia. On the way back, we will stop in a local winery to taste some of the best preserved wines in our country. Evening at your leisure. Take a drive with us to the Rila Monastery - UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the gorgeous mountain scenery of the mountains, it is considered the highest achievement of Bulgarian monumental architecture of the National Revival period. Of particular interest is the museum, and the 1335 Hrelyo's Tower, which is actually the oldest preserved building in the courtyard. Alongside is the big five-dome church Assumption of the Holy Virgin with splendid frescoes by some of Bulgaria’s finest artists of the time . Next day transfer to the airport.
