The city was indeed one of Europe’s most influential capitals from the Middle Ages until the unification of Italy in 1860.
Your walk continues by the San Carlo Theatre, the oldest continuously used opera house in Europe, and the iconic Umberto I shopping-gallery, an Art Deco masterpiece of iron and glass, which displays unparalleled creativity and elegance. Finally catching the first glimpse of the sea, walk along the pleasant lungomare promenade to reach the final highlight of the tour, Castel Dell’ Ovo. This medieval castle provides us with amazing views over the bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius and the famous islands of Capri and Ischia. The afternoon is at leisure, as you enjoy your free time to explore Naples at your own pace. Your local guide will be available to give you the best tips on where to go and where to try the best local delicacies. You will have the perfect opportunity to sample some local fish on the waterfront, or, of course, some delicious pizza! You may decide to wander the narrow streets of Spaccanapoli and take a trip on the funicular in the elegant Vomero area to fully appreciate this city of contrasts and colors, before joining your coach transfer back to Sorrento.
