The towns of Pompei and Herculaneum and their associated villas, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, provide a complete and vivid picture of society and daily life at a specific moment in the past that is without parallel anywhere in the world. Situated at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii was a very popular summer resort for the ancient Romans. The vast expanse of the commercial town of Pompei contrasts with the smaller but better-preserved remains of the holiday resort of Herculaneum. Today tourists can admire the remains of the temples, baths, theatres, streets, basilicas, fountains and villas, still richly decorated with fresco paintings and mosaics.

After the visit to Herculaneum, the excursion will continue towards Vesuvius where you will be able to admire the breathtaking view of the bay of Naples. Our driver will take you to the height of 1.000 meters from where you will be able to walk on to the crater.

Mount Vesuvius (Italian: Monte Vesuvio, Latin: Mons Vesuvius) is a stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples. Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera caused by the collapse of an earlier and originally much higher structure.

Vesuvius has erupted many times since and is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years. Today, it is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the population of 3,000,000 people living nearby and its tendency towards explosive (Plinian) eruptions. It is the most densely populated volcanic region in the world.
