Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Duomo di Salerno, Piazza Alfano I 1, 84121 Salerno Italy

Salerno used to be the capital of a little Norman kingdom in the 11th century, and it was the Normans who founded the first medical school in Europe here. There is time for shopping in the old quarters, or to visit the magnificent cathedral with its lovely mosaics, and crypt containing the relics of St. Matthew.
Then we drive south to the Sele Valley and Paestum to visit
the well preserved Greek Doric temples.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Templi Greci di Paestum, 84047 Paestum, Capaccio-Paestum Italy

The Greeks founded the town which was later occupied by the Romans,
but flooding which led to malaria, forced the inhabitants to abandon the area in the 8th century. In the 1930's the land was reclaimed, and the valley is now one of the most fertile farming areas in Italy.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Paestum, Via Magna Grecia 919, 84047 Paestum, Capaccio-Paestum Italy

Free time for lunch before the visit of the temples and nearby museum. Return to Sorrento in late afternoon.

Duration: 30 minutes

The ancient Greek ruins at Paestum were just as amazing as we expected. But we were both just as impressed with the incredibly vivid colors in the frescoes on the slabs from the tomb of the diver at the Paestum Museum as well as its many other artifacts. The Salerno Duomo's vaulted crypt of Saint Matthew is the most beautiful and ornate of any we have visited.

Good tour. Not too much activity on a hot day. The stop in Salerno is quick, just enough time to see the cathedral. The crypt is beautiful. The ruins are just amazing. Our guide was very good.

This was actually our favorite day trip while we were in Italy. Salerno was a nice stop off, and Paestum was very interesting we had the right amount of time in the ruins and the museum. I would highly recommend this to anyone using Sorrento or Naples as a base for exploring the area. Although Paestum is quite a bit further South than either of these locations, the ride was scenic and relaxing. The tour provided a little taste of Greek history, and the guide was very good. Be sure to read up on the history of the area and its multi-cultural influences before the trip.

We enjoyed our tour, but didn't really like our tour guide. She seemed lazy and couldn't be bothered to get off her butt to come down to the back of the bus to. Chat with us . This frustrated us and made us uncomfortable to ask questions.Sometimes these tours need to hire new young energetic staff. That could potentially make the tour more enjoyable

Left Salerno too quickly. Should have divided the time equally between the two places.

Paestum is really off the beaten path when it comes to historic sites in Italy. That may be starting to change as the area around the historic site is becoming more built up. Christine, the tour guide, is immensely knowledgeable and has so many fascinating things to share along the drive and at the sites in both Salerno and Paestum. In Salerno you have the option of continuing the tour into the cathedral of simply spending the time on your own in the city. Getting to Salerno and Paestum from Sorrento takes a fair amount of time. There is a lunch break and the food was very good. If you're a history buff then you'll really like this, if not then you'll probably be bored. If you're somewhere in between then I'd say give it a shot. If nothing else, it is unique and not a place that many tourists visit.
