About this activity
In the late morning, meet at Piazza Tasso Sorrento, Sorrento's main square, for your 3-hour food tour. Your passionate local guide will lead you on a leisurely walk through central Sorrento, revealing the southern Italian city’s old-world charm and fantastic culinary delights and traditions.

Savor authentic Sorrentine dishes and sip local libations on your visits to eight specialty food shops, markets and family-owned favorites. Come hungry, as these tastings add up to a very satisfying lunch! As you walk, admire the postcard-worthy cliff side dotted with stacked houses and lemon and olive groves, with majestic Mt Vesuvius as the backdrop.

Your first stop is a local pasticceria, where you'll try traditional sfogliatelle (a shell-shaped, filled pastry). Follow with a classic Italian panini and pall'e riso, the Neapolitan version of arancini. These fried rice balls are a southern Italy staple.

Visit a family-owned deli market for real buffalo mozzarella, local cheese and salumi (a cured meat, not to be confused with salami). Sample the area's oldest handcrafted beer, and then savor Sorrento's famous pasta dish with wine at a local trattoria. You'll also learn how Sorrento's famous lemons are turned into limoncello — the must-try beverage of southern Italy.

Your meal concludes with the perfect treat: gourmet gelato! You’ll return to Piazza Tasso Sorrento around 1:30pm with a happy belly.

My friend and I were really looking forward to this tour as we had read the reviews but were very disappointed . There were 14 in our group and most of the time we could not hear what the guide was saying for others in the group talking amongst themselves while she was speaking . We did not visit 2 of the places on the itinerary although the tour started with a cake from one of them which we ate at the meeting point . Bit strange to start with a cake ? We were then taken to a pizza restaurant where we were shown lots of lovely pizza being served to customers . Really looking forward to a slice but were given instead what I can only describe as being a bit of panini with some mozzarella and prosciutto in it . We then went on to the Limoncello ' factory ' Small tastings of everything lemoncello On again to taste a couple of meats and cheeses and then sweets biscuits and chocolates . Then onto dinner in a restaurant we had actually eaten in on our first night . Was expecting a pasta dish but had Gnocchi again disappointing . The meal was very rushed We were in and out in about 15 minutes Then on to an gelato shop for a small tasting. All in all not what we expected . We didn't really learn much about the Italian food culture or Sorrento . We were expecting to be taken to places we would go back to , maybe restaurants that we wouldn't have found ourselves . We did actually go back to the chocolate shop another night to buy some gifts and were actually given more tastings than we had on the tour ! This tour is not value for money . When I read the itinerary I was worried I would struggle to eat all of the food as I only have a small appetite . Need not have worried . The tastings ( apart from the cake ) were very small . To be honest would rather have spent my 75 euro in a restaurant .

We did the food tour on our last day in Sorrento - if we had to do it again we would book it for the first day as you learn a lot about the place and get a big picture view and insiders tips on where to go. Portion sizes were bite size, which is fine for a walking tour. Tamara was very knowledgeable with lots of tips on hotels and winebars/cocktails. We went in September and it was quite warm, so would advise on taking a hat, sunglasses and sunblock. The old town is small, so you don't cover huge distances, unlike some of the other food tours we have been on.

Marie and her family were very welcoming and hospitable. Great time and great food. Maria also gave us a few hints about how to prepare certain meals which was invaluable.

So glad that we did this tour. Tamara was fantastic. There were only 10 of us on the tour, so it was easy to interact. We walked around the town and stopped in for food samples at several locations. We learned about the food and history. We were so full when we finished. Tamara also provided good references for shopping. Would highly recommend.

This was a great way to see some local spots that would have been easy to miss without this experience. Great introduction into customs and local foods. Our guide was excellent.

Our guide Tamara was very knowledgable and fun to talk with. We were a fairly large group but she managed to get some one-on-one time with each of us and answered any questions we had along the way. You not only got to sample amazing food, but got to meet the chefs. We hit some cool historical sites between dishes which really gave you an overall appreciation for the city. Highly recommend!

We did this tour on Saturday Morning 13/10/18 with Tamara We thoroughly enjoyed the trip plenty of tastings and a small 2 course lunch with wine I thought we were going to try Pizza but we didn't would have been nice but we had plenty of other things so not an issue. If you can try to do this trip as soon as you can as it will help you get your bearings quicker if you have not been to Sorrento before.

We took this tour with another couple early in our visit to Sorrento. As a group, we were less than impressed with our guide. She spoke excellent English, but did not show much interest or personality when talking about various dishes/places. The food samples varied from very good to ordinary. The lunch at the end was disappointing.

Tamara was a wonderful host. We did this the first full day we arrived and it helped us to get comfortable with our surroundings and the food and drink was so great! We all had a wonderful time. It was my favorite activity that we did!

Tamara was a great guide , telling us about the food and history behind it. All the food was excellent and it was nice being with a small group. There was a nice cross section of foods with explanation of the preparation.
