Horseback ride by the Cetina river with a hint of Dalmatian historical spots
4 h
About this activity
You will be picked up at the suitable location in Split by a car (up to 3 guests) or a mini-van (up to 6 guests). On our way to the stables in Trilj (distance from Split 30 km), we will visit several historical sites important if you aim at better understanding Dalmatian history.
First, we will stop to see a small
necropolis of megalithic upright standing stones of doubtful age (so called "Stećci"). This unique funerary heritage, shared by all Illyrian tribes, was recently put on UNESCO's list. We will than stop to admire the
vestiges of the fortress of Nutjak, an exquisite spot that marks a division between a calm Cetina flowing through fields and restless Cetina making her way through a deep canyon. The spot is breathtaking. We will shortly visit a wide plateau,
historical seat of the VII Roman Legionary Camp. The camp is a bitter reminder of the final roman occupation of Dalmatia that occurred in the 1st century CE and several roman vestiges are still visible on site.
Than, with a better understanding of Dalmatian history, we will go to the beautiful stables of Lucija Triljska. We will spend some time saddling the horses in this peaceful natural environment and than we'll go horseback riding passing through rich fields, aiming to see the shores of the Cetina river, hidden by a thick vegetation. After a horseback ride we will return to Split by car or mini-van.
